Farewell Post

Dear readers and passersby,

This is my final post on Couture Tales.

Due to personal reasons, I can no longer keep up.

I truly enjoyed the creative process behind each tale.  I truly enjoyed incorporating fashion into every post.

Kiyonna and Stella & Dot added an extra layer to the creative end.  The essence of each story, though, was in fashion fiction...with or without affiliate marketing.

Kiyonna and Stella & Dot do still have valid points worth looking into.  Both have perks and reasons to shop.

With this said, I am leaving Couture Tales up and live should the blog be found and Kiyonna or Stella & Dot sparks interest.

And so I thank you for your interest in every story I drafted and posted.

I had a blast.

Shopping Spree

Due affiliate disclosure

Lauren was offered an employment position she could not pass on.  The location was in the heart of downtown.  The pay was awesome.  She had her own office.  Business casual was common office attire.  She now needed to go on a major shopping spree to be prepared for her new job.

Let's see...

New wardrobe - a must

New jewels - an accent to the new wardrobe

New purse - stylish touch

Wardrobe -

- Adorable dresses
- Trendy tops

Jewels -

- Modern
- Fashion forward
- Classic

Purse -

- Crossbody

Okay, she thought to herself.  I'm ready.

Lauren began on the Monday following her shopping spree.  She adored her job and loved having a personal office.  Her job soon became her career.  She never left her role, but received occasional pay raises.

With every raise came another shopping spree.

Queen Anne's Lace

Due affiliate disclosure

Annie recently graduated from The Art of Design.  She considered merchandising and buying during her studies, but apparel design was her dream career.

In the first six months after graduation, Annie was turned down by indie brands and major brands.  She was very upset but soon had an idea...

She would launch her own clothing line.

Annie adored lace fabric to work with because it is classic and relatively versatile - lace wedding gown with slight beading, lace blouse with jeans, lace blouse with a pencil skirt, lace blouse with dress pants, the options are endless.

Annie opted for the versatile look, especially blouses.

Special Occasion Top
(Kiyonna.com)

Annie sketched and handmade every style - formal, casual, slimmer size, plus size.

With samples on hand, Annie considered returning to the indie brands and major brands.  She also considered going to the corporate end of major retail.  Her request was to have her independent label sold in stores.

All were now impressed by her designs.  All agreed to sell her work as an independent label.

"What is your brand name?" all asked.

She hadn't considered that yet.

Let's see...

Annie by Design - No
Annie's Boutique - No
Annie Style - Definitely no

She was born under the name Anne, but family and friends called her Annie.  Anne though.  Lace.  She adored royal trends.

Queen Anne's Lace!  Yes.

"My brand name is Queen Anne's Lace."

Within one year of concept to production to sales, Queen Anne's Lace was a national name and must have among customers.

Couture Tales Highlight : Part 2

Fan Favorite

In this special edition of Couture Tales favorites, I am reflecting on fan favorites.

The leading contender is actually quite the surprise - Budget Savvy.

Budget Savvy was originally going to feature the fashion brand, Cents of Style.  I was once marketing Cents of Style as an affiliate.  However, due to personal reasons, I had to step down.

I chose instead to feature Stella & Dot in a random sort of way.  Stella & Dot does have a Sales section and offers occasional specials.  I knew I wanted to feature a brand I was marketing.  Stella & Dot was my best option.

When Budget Savvy appeared as a fan favorite, I of course was happily surprised.

And so feel free to read once more by following the link above or feel free to scroll through the archives!

Couture Tales Highlight : Part 1

Blogger favorite

My favorite post to date is split - London Style and Paris Style.

I chose to write about London and Paris fashion for two reasons - Stella & Dot has satellite offices in London and Paris (London is the European HQ for Stella & Dot) and secondly my passion for both locations.

Paris is the fashion capitol of the world.  Milan and London are a close second with equally profound input on current fashion trends.

New York City is the fashion capitol of the United States with fashion trend impact throughout the country and with certain input worldwide.

Current London fashion is timeless and modern all at once.  Perhaps my most favorite look is the Los Feliz Lila Mini Crossbody and Carrie Houndstooth Check Coat.  The styles are classic and define London.

Current Paris fashion is unique and would certainly make a statement at fashion week.  I am intrigued by the short shearling coat, skinny jeans, and booties look - rather fashion forward.  The military coat and kitten-heel booties are another intrigue.  I would never guess the two being a fashion pair.  I find Parisian style to be bold and daring...testing what could be and proving what it is.

Which would be your favorite?

Leave a comment to let me know!

Apology

Dear readers and passersby,

I am terribly sorry for the delay in posting.  My internet service went completely down over the past weekend and yesterday was the earliest chance I could receive tech assistance.  I am now back up and running.

In due notice, I am no longer an affiliate with  Cents of Style for personal and logistics reasons.

Please disregard any previous posts with links to Cents of Style as they will appear as invalid.

I am so sorry.

Budget Savvy

Due affiliate disclosure
Coupons.  Flash sales.  Deep discount sales.  One day only specials.  And of course the holidays.

Nina and Scott were newlyweds.  They were also dearly fortunate to come from "old money" well-off families.  However, Nina and Scott wanted to experience finances the way any other new marriage started out with.  And so they passed on a gorgeous three-story town home as a wedding gift from her parents.  They passed on a multi-million dollar check as a wedding gift from his parents.  The only finances Nina and Scott requested were for the ceremony and reception...a lavish affair.  The dollar signs they turned down would have afforded couture for her, bespoke for him, and luxury furnishings for the home.

Nina and Scott wanted their marriage to start from scratch.

Coupons.  Flash sales.  Deep discount sales.  One day only specials.  And of course the holidays...and jewelry.

The only fine jewelry Nina owned was her engagement ring and wedding ring - white gold band for both and Tiffany diamonds for the engagement ring.

Fashion jewelry was Nina's passion.  Direct sales boutiques were her weak point.

She would melt at every jewel or accessory she wanted so much.  She technically had the money to spend away.  No.  She firmly believed in the financial mission she vowed to with her husband.

What is a girl to do though?!

How to be budget savvy with justified retail costs on direct sales online boutiques.

One day, Nina was scrolling through her favorite boutique and noticed something different on the main page...a blowout sale for inventory permanently going out of stock.  And...her favorite necklace/bracelet/earrings/ring set was part of the blowout sale!

She screamed with joy in her mind.  The set was classified as statement pieces and individually broken down, each jewel was at a minimum $50 (generally far more for the necklace and bracelet, though).  The set as a package began at $200 or more.  Her heart melted every time she stared at the jewelry and the price tag.  She technically could have afforded it...until she saw the blowout sale price - $100 for the lot.  Broken down - each selection was $25.

Her budget savvy instinct never went over $100 for anything - groceries, updated closet, and so much more.

And so on this day, Nina's budget savvy nature stroke luck.  Bonus - free shipping and waived tax because of the minimum order.

When the package arrived the following week, she excitedly tried everything on.  She did hope her husband would approve.

"Wow.  You look gorgeous, Nina!  But the jewelry looks so expensive.  How were you able to afford it?" Scott asked skeptically.

Think budget savvy.  Think budget savvy.

"Blowout sale!  The total was $100."

"Awesome!  Relief, I'll say."

"Me too," Nina nervously laughed.

At the end of the day, budget savvy proved worthwhile.  She could love and enjoy once not possible.

Designer Style

Due affliliate disclosure

Summer New Arrivals

Catherine was an independent fashion designer with a strong entrepreneurial mindset.  She was best known - by her family and friends - for her handbags of all types, especially tote bags.

Catherine was always in design mode, sketching and hand crafting.  She never gave herself a break to find a way to actually sell her work.  Until one gorgeous, sunny, crisp Saturday...

She claimed a booth at a local arts and crafts fair.  The table was filled with her personally favorite creations.  The tent covering the booth was filled with other styles and excess inventory in the event a particular style sells out.

Comment after comment.  Interest after interest.  But nothing...yet.

"These handbags are amazing!  I'm guessing you designed them yourself?"

"Yep!  From sketch to handmade...all me," Catherine said with a beaming smile.

"Hmm."

Catherine hesitated for a moment.  Was this person going to pass as well?

"You know, a good friend of mine is a buyer at OFF - a retail boutique exclusive to New York.  We are in Evanston, though.  Anyway, she is always interested in considering new designers.  She would love your work.  Do you have a business card?"

"Um...Oh yes!  Here you go," Catherine was briefly embarrassed to know that her business cards were tucked away from visual sight.

"I see your name is Catherine.  Hello to you, then.  My name is Elle.  Do you mind if I make a purchase?  I would love to show my friend one of your designs."

"Absolutely!"

Elle bought a tote bag, tucked Catherine's business card in her wallet, thanked her, and left.

Catherine screamed with joy in her head.  OFF was a huge retail boutique exclusive to New York.  Designers around the country were eager to be a coveted feature.

One month later, Catherine felt blue.  Why was she not receiving a response?  And then...

Ring.  Ring.  Ring.  Her cell phone!

"Hello?"

"Hi Catherine.  This is Elle.  I am so sorry to keep you waiting this past month.  Fashion is always busy.  Listen, I spoke to the buying department at OFF and they love your designs.  They want to sell your handbags at a generous retail cost.  What are your thoughts?"

Catherine raised her jaw from the metaphorical floor and nervously said,

"Absolutely."

"Great!  I will arrange shipping to get the handbags to our warehouse.  From there, marketing will take over to get presentation in the Winter line.

"Congratulations, Catherine.  You are now a professional designer.  Welcome to OFF."

Fashion Duo

Due affiliate disclosure

Stella & Dot recently announced a partnership with the fashion designer, Rebecca Minkoff.

Rebecca Minkoff is well known for affordable luxury fashion, from handbags to accessories to footwear to apparel.

In 2005, Rebecca designed her first handbag - the "Morning After Bag" - which became an iconic staple and skyrocketed her success as a handbag designer.

In 2009, Rebecca introduced her first ready-to-wear apparel collection.

In 2011, Rebecca was awarded the Breakthrough Designer Award from the Accessories Council.

Further details about Rebecca Minkoff can be found on her website.

My take away -
I find the Rebecca Minkoff style to be edgy, modern, and one of a kind.  Stella & Dot is very much the same way.  Recommendation is a definite yes.

The Boutique

EMMA
*
CHANTEL

Chantel was an independent fashion jewelry designer.  She once launched an online boutique to sell her creations, but only received two orders.  She kept the boutique open, but did not actively engage in promotion.  For now, Chantel designed jewelry for special occasions and rare custom orders.  However...

Everyday, Chantel had a routine that began with checking emails after breakfast and with morning coffee on hand.

On this particular day, Chantel received an email from someone she knew...as a retail customer.

'Dear Chantel,

I recently came across your online boutique and love your jewelry designs.  They are one of a kind and definitely fashion forward.

As a fellow entrepreneur, I understand the challenges in breaking into the fashion business and really getting your name out there.

Your work has phenomenal potential and truly deserves to be in brick and mortar retail.

With this said, I would like to offer a partnership and trademark your name into an official brand.  Your jewelry would be an ideal compliment to my clothing line.

Let me know what you think.

Sincerely,
Emma Johnson'

OMG raced through Chantel's mind.  Emma Johnson was one of the most famous couture apparel designers in the world.  How did she find my boutique, Chantel thought to herself.  In this moment, she did not want to know.  In this moment, her focus was on how to respond to thee Emma Johnson.  What would she say?  How could she keep a professional tone without appearing ecstatic?  She carefully typed out her response.

Emma & Chantel was the new brand name.  Chantel's boutique retail price was now double in brick and mortar boutiques.  She had employees to help create her designs and keep up with the placed orders.  Her work was now in seasonal look books alongside Emma's designs.  Chantel's designs were a highlight at fashion weeks and red carpet events.

Chantel's profound success would forever be credited to her modest online boutique.

Broadway Matinee

Anne was so excited for this day.  She had never been to a Broadway production, but was greatly intrigued by the reviews of the show performing in her hometown...rather, she had to come into the city for the show.

There was a sense of exceptional eagerness among the crowd waiting to enter the theater.  She was alone today because her boyfriend could not get out of work.  Although she was upset because he was the one that bought the tickets, she was thrilled to know that she had a private box seat.

And then the doors opened.  Formal Broadway etiquette -

Present the ticket and receive the stub.
Purchase a Playbill.
Ushers show audience members to their seats
Acceptable allowance to view the orchestra pit up close

And then the orchestra pit is filled with musicians tuning their instruments

Last to arrive audience members being shown to their seats

Everyone was dressed so formally.  Anne was in a lovely lace navy blue gown reserved for very special occasions...such as this one.  She could not understand why a Broadway audience dressed up, but suits and gowns were simply proper tradition and etiquette.

And then the lights dimmed

Everyone clapped as the velvet red curtains opened to start the show.

The Broadway musical left Anne in a trance.  She was lost in happy awe by the talent on stage.  Singing, dialogue, costumes, scenery.  On exact cue.

And then the intermission

Many left their seats to go to the concession stand on the ground floor of the theater.  Anne was most comfortable where she was.

And then the dimming of the lights

Audience cue to return to their seats

The musical continued for one final hour.  Shouts of "Bravo!" and "Encore!" for the main actors and actresses to bow once more.

Anne was filled with electric excitement waiting to enter the theater and settling into her private box seat that had an ideal view of the entire stage and performers.

She left with the magic of Broadway continuing to play in her mind.

"Hallo.  Welcome to Berlin," declared the flight attendant upon landing and resting at the gate.

The passengers coming to Berlin from the U.S. had different reasons.  Some were in the United States on business and relieved to be home and greeted in their native language - "hallo" is German for "hello" in English.  A select few were in Berlin as business transfers and curious to explore their new home and culture.  A stray passenger was a college student studying abroad.  The remaining others were in Berlin as tourists.  A few of these others were exploring their heritage.  Translation books were on hand.

"Enjoy your stay," said the flight attendant to ever passenger as they exited the plane.  Of course, there was no way for her to know the reasons behind each passenger.

Let's focus on the tourists.

The first site to see is the Berlin Wall as cemented into American and German history.  All other German attractions are named in German, so make great use out of the translation books.

Stay awhile.

Author's Note : Online Shopping Perks

Due affiliate disclosure

Why shop online?

The main reason is staying home.

Let's narrow down shopping online - Kiyonna and Stella & Dot.

Kiyonna
Stylish Plus Size Clothing at www.Kiyonna.com!

Women are pressured by society to be a certain size.  Fashion week models do not exactly help the cause for women of any size to look and feel their best, feel the most confident, and feel the most secure.  I am a plus size - size 16 jeans and 3X tops.  I would like to lose weight and lower my sizes, but for now I am okay.

So why shop Kiyonna online?  If I were to shop in person, I might feel nervous to go straight to the plus size section as though I did not want anyone to know.  Yet Kiyonna has so much to offer, clothing can still be viewed up close, and there is no shame ever in shopping for plus size clothing.  The tops, bottoms, and dresses range in the same retail cost as in-person.  The apparel is on trend and, as the link states above, very stylish.  The variety is likewise phenomenal, from style to occasion to types of fabric.  Kiyonna is simply a must when shopping online.

Stella & Dot
Stella & Dot jewelry

As the link states above, Stella & Dot is foremost defined by fashion jewelry - necklaces of all styles, bracelets of all styles, earrings of all styles, and rings.  Yet there is something intriguing about Stella & Dot...products offered are beyond just jewelry.  Stella & Dot has a clothing line, versatile bag styles, and connections with major designers such as Rebecca Minkoff.

The price range on Stella & Dot is the same as retail in-person.

So why shop Stella & Dot?  The jewelry, the clothing, the accessories, the major connections, and so much more yes.  However, when you shop Stella & Dot, you are supporting budding entrepreneurs hoping Stella & Dot will be thee career.

And so I conclude today's Author's Note.  There are definite perks to shopping online, from Kiyonna plus to Stella & Dot luxe.  If I spark interest, explore and enjoy!

Wedding Story Fan Favorite

Spring Blossom is the wedding story fan favorite by a landslide.

The Spring Blossom wedding gown, then, is the fan favorite.

The Poised Peplum Wedding Gown is exclusive in women's plus sizes.

Cost: $288.00*

Made in the USA

*Cost comparison - The majority of plus size bridal gowns at David's Bridal are well above what Kiyonna offers, while only a brief few match or are less than the Kiyonna Poised Peplum Wedding Gown.  Kleinfeld is an upscale bridal salon in New York City with prices to match the couture experience.

My take away -
I am a plus size - 3X tops and size 16 jeans.  I do not have a boyfriend.  I have never been in love.  I have never been proposed to.  I have never been engaged.  I have never walked down the aisle as a bride or as a bridesmaid.  However, if any of this was not true, the Poised Peplum Wedding Gown would be a must for fabric and style alone.

And as for the jewelry...

Charlotte Pendant Set - Deep Navy

I chose the Stella & Dot Charlotte Pendant Set - Deep Navy to match the Poised Peplum Wedding Gown as a classic and elegant look.  Fashion and jewelry simply go together...especially on a bride's wedding day.

(Side note : Stella & Dot jewelry is designed and manufactured in the U.S.)
